Catering From The Heart

After many re-incarnations of careers and proud successes, there came one of those life-changing birthdays. The kind where everyone tells you how great you look while inquiring when you’re planning to retire. Retiring was not for me!

While there are many reasons for redirecting one’s career and life choices, the most prevalent and important for me was the loss of our son in 2008. If there was ever a time to find a “new-normal” and search out stimulating challenges to help bring joy back into my life, this was that time.

What career opportunities might I pursue that would combine my executive corporate background, kindergarten teaching and 25-year ownership of a sales training/speaker company? Nothing I thought of seemed to fit. Then it came to me. Why not do what everyone tells me I’m great at and the thing I enjoy the most? For me, that was cooking!

I’d been an accomplished at-home chef for decades. Cooking got me through the darkest of times. Cooking for friends and family warmed my heart and healed me. Hearing such kindnesses as, “I wish I could put together a party/meal as beautifully as you do.” “You should do this for a living,” etc. made me realize that when the universe sends you the same message again and again, be there to receive it. Juste Hors D’Oeuvres and More! was born of my love for cooking, the desire to share the joy cooking brings to me with others and the needed challenge a new direction would provide.
